Description
Marco Alvan and Gabriel Napao Gonzaga brought the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu system from the tough streets of Brazil to North America. Our students have been well taught to defend themselves in dangerous situations against bigger attackers and have been competing in and winning tournaments across New England.
"If you can't defend yourself while standing and on the ground then you DON'T know how to defend yourself...
"95% of all self-defense situations end up on the ground or in the grappling range... Grappling is the most neglected range of self- defense in most martial art systems.
At Daniel Sterling Martial Arts Academy, we teach Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu, Judo, and Submission Wrestling. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling art that was popularized in America by the legendary Gracie family. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu concentrates on dominating your opponent by using angles, leverage, and superior body positioning to control an opponent’s body movement. A person that has a superior position is in a better situation to apply a finishing hold or to start striking. This style allows for a smaller person to defeat a much larger attacker. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is excellent for women who are often taken to the ground during assaults. We recommend this style for men, women, and children looking for a great workout and realistic self-defense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is similar and, in some cases, both supplementary and complementary to the Olympic Sport of Judo. In our curriculum, we believe that it is not only important to control our opponent on the ground, but also on our feet. Therefore, we have taken the proactive approach of marrying the arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo , and Submission Wrestling.
